Chapter 1: Presence made to be known

"To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God..." - Timothy Keller

During our first week here in Padang, we had our orientation and we were also introduced to the new students. We also had the opportunity to meet the President and Deans of Universitas Negeri Padang.

Orientation held at the International Office

The agenda of the orientation was about the following: The mission and vision of UNP; the programs offered; the courses offered; the "do's and don'ts"; our schedules; the school assigned to us and how to get there.

Our schedule trough out our stay in Padang, Indonesia.

They taught us how to get to our respective schools. They also suggested alternative ways to get to our schools.

We can ride their public transportation called "Angkot." We could also use the mobile application "Go-Jek" to order either a motorcycle or a car that would bring us to our schools. Or some of our buddies that have motorcycles or car can drive us if they are not busy.

We were also instructed that we should already be inside the school before the morning ceremonies. And as for our attire inside the school, it should be presentable. It should have a collar with long sleeves and a long pants to go with it.

During this week, we were introduced to the new students of the University. We also had the opportunity to meet the President of the University and have pictures with him and the other Deans of the school.

And it was a great feeling to face the new students. To meet them and to inspire them to join the SEA Teacher Exchange Program was one of the greatest privileges given to us.

"As long as they exist, we introduce them to new students and can also motivate new students to take part in the SEA Teacher program through the 15 International Class Programs currently available," said the Chancellor of UNP, Prof. Ganefri.

And to be seen in one of the news headlines of the University was an amazing experience and at the same time a great privilege. To read the whole story line, you can visit the site:
